Destination Configuration of Database Importer for JSM Assets

Creating a destination involves three essential steps. Additionally, you have the flexibility to create multiple destinations as needed.

Jira Connection Configuration

Our application leverages Jira Rest API for programmatic access while updating Object Schema, Object Type, and Attribute configurations of JSM Assets.

  1. Navigate to Destination Tab and select “+” button.

  2. By Default the connection will be set to Current Site, if you wish to set up and External Site connection, please follow the steps here.

  1. Click "Add" to verify the setup which will prompt a success message.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If you don’t receive a success message, check the following:

  • User Permissions: Ensure the user is a Jira Admin and has a JSM User license.

  • Site Allow List: If an IP allow list is enabled, add the Forge IP addresses to grant access to your site through our application.

Schema Selection Configuration

You have two options in this section:

  1. Create a new Object Schema

  2. Use an existing Object Schema

Pro Tip: We recommend creating a new Object Schema to store Database related data separately. This allows you to assign roles only to necessary users or groups. Since the imported data includes personal information, ensure compliance with your organization’s data policies.

Option 1: Create a New Object Schema

After creating the destination, you will notice a button labeled “Set/Select” in the same row. Clicking this button will present you with the option to choose between a New or Existing Object Schema. Please select New Object Schema.

Fill in the following fields:

  • Object Schema Name: e.g. MySQL Schema

  • Object Schema Key: e.g. MQL

  • Description: e.g. Auto-generated Database Data

Then, click "Create Object Schema" to proceed.

Option 2:

  1. Select an Existing Object Schema.

  2. Find the schema you’d like to use.

  3. Click "Use Existing Object Schema" to continue.

If the selected schema already contains the same Object Types, you will be notified and required to update them before moving forward.

Pro tip: Either you chose Option 1 or 2, make sure that you remove the default values from the Object Schema Roles menu. It should look like the following.

Then, only add the relevant users, groups, or apps.

Import Token Configuration

To import a large amount of data into JSM Assets, you need to generate a key that securely authorizes the data transfer (more info).
Please add the Import Token for your External Import configuration in Assets.

  1. Once you create your schema, you can click on the dropdown which will give you the Schema and Import Links.

  1. The Import Tab Link will take you to page where you can create your Import Token. Click on "Create Import" to begin the setup.

  1. Select "External Import" and click "Next".

  1. Enter a Name and Description.

Name: Database Importer for JSM Assets

Description: Data is imported from an external Database automatically.

  1. Click the three dots (…) and select "Generate new token".

  2. Copy the generated token.

  1. Return to the Application’s Destination Tab.

  2. Select the “Set” button and paste the token into the Import Token field in Import Token Configuration, then click "Save & Check".

  1. Now, it is time to Import.
